Reminding of the paintings
in 2020-2023

This exhibition offers a journey through the artist's life over the past few years, encapsulated in their works.

In January 2020, the artist moved to Germany, where they spent the next one to two years exploring themes of nostalgia. Large paintings like "I Can Go Where I Want to Go," "When Is Dad Coming," and "My Universe" reflect the longing for distant family. The birth of the artist's niece, Yeju, and memories of her childhood are metaphorically woven into these pieces.

After this period of nostalgia, the artist spent some time in Mungyeong, Gaeun village in Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. During this time with the Huiyangsan community, the artist completed "February," a work inspired by flowers purchased from a hidden garden in the area, capturing the warmth of the Korean winter.

A request from Nichole, a photographer in Berlin, led to the creation of "Marianne's House #3." The piece draws inspiration from helping a long-time elderly couple and their belongings, reflecting on the traces of life and human relationships.

The artist's time in Germany also inspired "On the Road," a series that depicts the solitary walks and introspection experienced there. Additionally, items bought from a flea market in Germany, like "Flask," "Ceramic," and "Jar," connect the past and present through the traces of time embedded in them.

Experiences in South Korea are also featured in this exhibition. "Piled Up," inspired by a cafe in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam, was completed after a visit to Tongdosa Temple, capturing its scenic beauty. "While Waiting" was created from an experience at a small temple in Chungcheong-do, and the serene and sweet sea called "Sugar Sea" is portrayed in another piece.

Through these works, the exhibition offers a vivid reflection of the artist's life moments, allowing visitors to embark on a journey with the artist.

이번 전시에서는 유현경 작가의 지난 몇 년간의 여정을 작품을 통해 만나볼 수 있습니다. 2020년 1월 독일로 이주한 후, 작가는 1-2년간 향수를 주제로 한 작품들을 선보였습니다. <어디든 갈 수 있지 I can go where I want to go>, <아빠 언제오나 When is dad coming>, <내세상 My Universe> 등의 대형 그림들은 멀리 떨어진 가족과의 그리움을 담고 있습니다. 특히 조카 예주의 탄생과 어린 시절의 기억이 은유적으로 표현되었습니다.

향수가 가신 후, 작가는 한국 경상북도 문경, 가은 마을에서의 시간을 보냈습니다. 희양산 공동체와 함께한 시간 동안 <2월 February>이라는 작품을 완성했습니다. 들판에서 사온 다양한 꽃들을 통해 그려낸 이 작품은 작가의 한국에서의 따뜻한 겨울을 담고 있습니다.

베를린에서 알게 된 사진작가 Nichole의 요청으로 도와준 노부부의 이야기에서 영감을 받아 <마리안의 집에서 #3>이라는 작품이 탄생했습니다. 이 작품은 삶의 흔적과 사람들 사이의 관계를 표현하고 있습니다.

독일에서의 생활을 통해 <길 위에서>라는 작품도 전시됩니다. 독일에서 홀로 걷던 시간들이 담긴 이 작품은 작가의 내면을 탐구하는 과정을 보여줍니다. 또한, 독일 벼룩시장에서 구입한 물건들을 소재로 한 <호리병>, <도자기>, <항아리> 등의 작품도 선보입니다. 시간의 흔적이 묻어 있는 물건들을 통해 과거와 현재를 연결합니다.

한국에서의 생활도 이번 전시에 반영되었습니다. 강남구 신사동의 카페에서 영감을 받아 시작된 <첩첩이>는 통도사의 풍광을 반영하여 완성되었습니다. 충청도의 작은 절에서의 경험을 담은 <기다리며>, 그리고 슈가씨로 불리우는 달콤한 바다를 표현한 작품도 이번 전시에 포함되어 있습니다.

작가의 삶의 순간들이 고스란히 녹아 있는 이번 전시를 통해 관람객들은 작가와 함께 여행하는 듯한 경험을 할 수 있을 것입니다.
